Social Responsibility
Lifting As We Climb Mentorship Program
It was the privilege of our Immediate past president to launch our very own “Lifting as we climb mentorship programme” at the last Annual Dinner which will close the gap created by the discontinuation of the LSSA LEAD trademark mentorship programme. It will also ensure that we continue to discharge our social responsibility as an Institute. This programme is voluntary and will cover everybody who needs mentoring, including our members.
Mrs Shabangu takes full responsibility for the running of this programme and invited all SAIIPL members who wish to serve as mentors and to share their life experiences and vast knowledge in IP with younger members of the profession and aspiring patent and trade mark attorneys in practice, universities and high schools to contact her. There is scope for everyone and I also invited the younger members of the Institute as their involvement will be invaluable, especially to new members entering the profession, university and high school students.

Women’s Day
The (SAIIPL) is celebrating National Women’s Day on 12 August yearly by hosting a lunch for members of the Institute and will be raising funds.
The organisers are Vicky Stilwell and Mandy Gordon and can be contacted through the Institue at saiipl@icon.co.za.
National Women’s Day is an annual public holiday held in South Africa on August 9. This day commemorates the national march of women in 1956 to petition against legislation that required African persons to carry the “pass”, special identification documents which curtailed an African’s freedom of movement during the apartheid era.
